Seamus Power faces an uphill battle to make the cut after he opened his Charles Schwab Challenge with a three-over 76.
Power lies in a share of 106th position at Colonial CC after he mixed five bogeys and just two birdies – although they were two’s – as his struggles on the PGA TOUR continue.
Unheralded American John Pak leads the way by three shots on seven-under after a superb round of 63.
Pat opened his day with an eagle on the par-4 10th and added another birdie on the 17th.
Pak roared to the club house with three birdies in four holes from the first and then finished with a closing birdie.
“Yeah, like a solid 8 out of 10. Yeah, I hit the ball well. I judged it really well when I did miss the fairway and kind of just made sure to leave myself in the right spots. The putting was the best.”
Patrick Rodgers and Matt Wallace are part of a nine-way tie for second place on four-under-par while Scottie Scheffler is two-under after a 68.
The PGA champion roared out of the traps with an eagle, birdie start but a bogey on the third slowed him up for the day and he added a birdie on 11 and bogey on 16 to share 20th place.
“I mean, it was a challenging day. I didn’t hit the ball in the fairway a lot. Around this golf course you have to be in the fairway. I did a good job of posting a score, and hopefully I get out tomorrow in some softer conditions and take advantage of that,” said the world number one.
