James Sugrue carded a final round of 72 at the Motocaddy Masters to finish in fourth place at St Melllion Golf Club.

The Mallow man teed off in the final round just three shots off the lead but a level-par round saw him finish on four-under-par, three shots behind eventual winner Nicholas Infanti of the US.

Sugrue started well on Thursday, picking up a bird on the par-5 2nd but his chances of a maiden professional victory were dealt a blow when he double bogeyed the par-4 5th.

The 28-year-old responded with a string of pars before back to back birdies on the 12th and 13th kept his hopes of victory alive.

Sugrue dropped a shot on the 15th but recovered with a birdie on 16 but at this stage he had too much to do and closed out his day with a bogey on 18.

St Mellion’s own Tyler Hogarty carded three successive rounds of 72 to claim eleventh on level-par alongside the Island’s Paul McBride.

Also making the cut were Niall Kearney and John Ross Galbraith.
