Leona Maguire managed to card her first birdies of the HSBC Women’s World Championship but it wasn’t enough to see her move in the right direction in Singapore.

Although there was some improvement, she could only sign for a round of 73 as she fell back to four-over-par and eleven shots behind A Lim Kim.

Maguire started on the back nine again and after dropping a shot on the 12th she registered her first birdie of the tournament at the par-5 13th.

The Cavan woman bogeyed the par-3 17th and the 3rd but finished strong with five pars and a birdie at the par-5 5th.

Kim carded a round of 69 and will take a one shot lead into the weekend on seven-under-par.

The Korean turned in 35 after three birdies and a bogey on her front nine and there was daylight between herself and former world number one Lydia Ko after birdies on the 10th and 13th but a bogey on 14 has tightened everything up.

Ko carded a round of 67 to lie in solo second on six-under-par with Hyo Joo Kim and Charley Hull a shot further back.

“I actually thought I played really solid yesterday,” said Ko. “It was kind of — the conditions and everything made it a lot more difficult to score. The wind was a little bit calmer today.

“I think you needed to, I guess, take advantage of those kind of situations. But yeah, you know, not a lot went wrong, and I just kept giving myself a lot of good looks. I think the real key to me for playing well is hitting a lot of greens, and I was able to do that a lot better today versus yesterday. I think that was probably like the biggest difference in the score.”
