World Number 18 Tyrrell Hatton will join Ryder Cup teammates Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy at the Horizon Irish Open when the popular tournament returns to The K Club, from September 6-10.
The Englishman finished in a share of fifth when the event was last held at the Co. Kildare venue in 2016, a year after missing out on a play-off by one stroke at Royal County Down.
The six-time DP World Tour winner has enjoyed a strong start to 2023 as he seeks a third consecutive Ryder Cup appearance. Hatton finished in a share of seventh at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and has three further top ten results on the PGA TOUR, including second at THE PLAYERS Championship and T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, which he won in 2020.
Also set to tee it up at the island of Ireland’s national open is Séamus Power, who played alongside Hatton at the Hero Cup and is bidding for a debut Ryder Cup appearance this September. “I’m very excited to return to Ireland later this year,” said Hatton. “It has always been a great event to play in and I have some great memories of The K Club after my good result in 2016. There’s always a special atmosphere at the Horizon Irish Open and the fans are always incredible.
“With its new September date, the tournament comes at a really important time in our schedules, so I hope to use it as a platform and build towards a strong finish to the year.”
The Horizon Irish Open returns to The K Club for the first time since 2016, with the 2006 Ryder Cup venue also hosting the tournament in 2025 and 2027 as part of a multi-year agreement. In the intervening years, the European Challenge Tour’s Irish Challenge will be staged at the venue.
Adrian Meronk made history in 2022 as he became the first player from Poland to win on the DP World Tour when he triumphed at Mount Juliet Estate. He added his name to a roll of honour that stretches back to 1927 and includes Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Pádraig Harrington, José María Olazábal, Jon Rahm and McIlroy.
