Karl McCormack and Joseph Byrne are stalking the lead in their respective professional and amateur classes ahead of the final round of the latest Toro Tour event in Atalaya.
McCormack went one shot better than his opening 68, carding five birdies and just one dropped shot in a superb 67 that moves him into second spot on seven-under overall.
That’s just one shot back of Canada’s Jacob Lehman who jumped to the front with a Tuesday 66.
McCormack sets the standard from an Irish perspective in the pro category though Galway’s Ronan Mullarney did make a move into seventh place with six birdies in a four-under 67.
In the amateur event, Baltinglass’ Byrne sits in second spot on three-under and just two strokes off the lead after a tidy two-under round of 69 on day two.
Byrne carded four birdies and will hope for more of the same in Wednesday’s final round where Grange’s Jake Whelan remains in touch just one stroke further back after signing for a second successive 70.
