Seamus Power had been cruising along nicely at the Quicken Loans National but a third round two over par round of 72 has dropped him down the leaderboard into a tie for 43rd position.

Power, who is doing everything he can to secure his PGA Tour card again for next season is playing his 21st event of the season and easily made the cut as he was tied 20th after round two.

His third round started well with a birdie on the second but he gave it straight back at the third and then had another bogey on five followed by a string of pars which saw him reach the turn in one over for the day. He picked up the shot on the par 4 13th but back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 saw him drop over 20 places on the leaderboard.

At the head of proceedings Italy’s Francesco Molinari is looking for his first PGA title as well as to become the first Italian in 71 years to win on the PGA Tour as he is tied at the top of the leaderboard on -13 with Abraham Ancer.

Molinari birdied his closing two holes in a third round 65 to move to the front on 13-under par before being joined by Mexican, Ancer, who produced eight birdies in a superb eight-under par 62 in the Maryland heat.

Molinari & Ancer lead the field by two strokes and with the American duo of Zach Blair (66) and Ryan Amour (68) next best on 11-under par in third place.

Meanwhile, he who cannot be ignored,Tiger Woods, is sitting menacingly in T10th on seven under after a 68 which included four straight birdies from the 4th. He bogeyed 13 and 18 unfortunately with a birdie on 16 wedged in between but at only six shots back could he post a score?
