Ireland’s Stephanie Meadow captured her first win in recent times on the USA’s Cactus Tour yesterday where she carded a final round 66 to win the tournament at Wigwam Patriot Blue by a four stroke margin.

Meadow, who has been competing on The Cactus Tour since her return from injury, was T2 at Wigwam Red a couple of weeks ago and also finished 7th at Sun City earlier in January before claiming the well deserved W yesterday.  The Cactus Tour runs mostly around the Phoenix area with 30 events on the calendar and was created to allow professional women golfers to play outside of the LPGA and Symetra Tours. The fields typically include a mix of more seasons professionals, first years and amateurs and it is ideal for players looking to work on their game in preparation for an assault on the larger tours or for players coming back from injury who need to sharpen up, and that is just what Meadow did.

In the 54 hole event (all the events are 54 holes with no cut), Meadow went 71, 71 for her first two rounds and was lying in third place heading to the final day.  However her closing 66, the best recorded round of the tournament, was sensational as she birdied 3 of the final 5 holes to make it comfortable down the stretch and win the event by four strokes and she picked up a cheque for $2500.

Congratulations Stephanie, keep it going.
