Stuart Grehan’s superb playoff victory at Seapoint this past weekend has propelled the County Louth golfer to the top of this year’s Men’s Bridgestone Order of Merit.
Since returning to the amateur ranks, Grehan has hit a rich vein of form early in the season. The 32-year-old’s run to the semi final of the West of Ireland Championship followed by a seventh-place finish at the Munster Men’s Stroke Play Championship helped the Offaly native climb the early season rankings.
But it was his dramatic playoff victory over Lewy Hayward (Marlborough) at the Flogas Irish Men’s Amateur Open Championship last Sunday that earned Grehan a massive 500 points and a solo lead at the top of the table.
After claiming third place on the Order of Merit last season, Matthew McClean has once again made a strong start to his 2025 campaign. The Malone golfer’s battling performance on the final day at Seapoint saw him finish third, picking up 375 points, firing the Irish International straight to a second-place spot in the rankings, 355 behind Grehan.
Gerard Dunne (Co. Louth) makes his first appearance on the Order of Merit this season following his T4 finish on Sunday while David Howard is this week’s biggest mover, after his seventh-place finish at Seapoint saw the Fota Island golfer surge from T39 to seventh overall.
Next up for the men is a return to County Louth as the East of Ireland Championship tees up at the Baltray links from 30 May.
On the Women’s side, Olivia Costello (Roscommon) will remain top of the Order of Merit for at least another two weeks as the Ulster Women’s Stroke Play Open Championship is set to get underway at Shandon Park from 26 May.
