Mixed fortunes for Irish teams at European Team Championships

It was a day of mixed fortunes at the European Team Championships as the boys and men’s team both made it through to Flight A and progressed to the quarter finals while the women’s and girls teams didn’t were placed in Flight B.

Men’s Championship
In the men’s championship in Austria rounds of 69 from both Colm Campbell and Paul mcBride (who also finished second into e individual standings) ensured Ireland finished 5th and qualified for Flight A and a quarter final tie with Italy.  England were the runaway leaders on a team score of -8, followed by Norway on -1, Sweden on level par, Italy on +6 and Ireland on +7.

Boys Championship
In the boys championship in Finland a round of 69 from Cameron Raymond contributed greatly to their eighth placed finish and the team now play Spain (who were the leading qualifiers) in the quarter finals. The leading Irish player was Jack Hearn from Tramore who was in 17th place.

Ladies’ Championship
In the ladies’ championship in Portugal the Irish team finished in tenth place on +4 and take a position in Flight B. Best of the Irish players was Irish Close Champion Paula Grant who tied for 14th place.  The team will now face Slovakia in the next match.

Girls Championship
In the girls championship in Finland Annabel Wilson tied for third in the individual standings but it wasn’t enough to help the team through as they finished in 12th place. They now take on Norway in Flight B in their next match.
