Robert Moran shot a two-under-par round of 70 to climb four places and finish tied for 17th at the Lacanau Alps Open in France.

The Castle man, who started the day five back, had an outside chance of a first victory on the Alps Tour circuit, but needed to start fast and it didn’t materialise. Two bogeys on the front side saw him reach the turn at -2 overall, but birdies on 11, 13, 16 and 17 turned his fortunes around and the result was enough to hold onto third place in the Alps Tour’s Order of Merit.

With a tightly packed leaderboard at the top and everything still to play for, experience ultimately made the difference. Starting the day two shots off the lead and nearly 40 minutes ahead of the final group, Anthony Grenier produced the perfect final round to claim the title.

The 50-year-old Frenchman, who joined the Legends Tour earlier this season, carded a flawless 66 (-6) to secure victory. It marks his second Alps Tour title — remarkably, 18 years after his first win, which came at the 2008 Lyoness Open in Austria.

Fellow Frenchman Nathan Legendre tried to chase him down but eventually finished alone in second place, two shots back. Another French player completed the podium, with Louis Bonté sharing third place alongside Spain’s Jorge Maicas.
