Darren Clarke found form on the final day of the PGA TOUR Champions Insperity Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club, and the 57-year-old made a back-nine push to finish four back from eventual winner Boo Weekley.
Clarke started the day off in a tie for 12th and slowly made his way up the leaderboard and into contention. He began with a quick birdie at the par-5 first before adding another at the par-4 fifth to take the turn at two-under.
His move really began on the back nine, making back-to-back birdies at the par-4 10th and 11th, taking him to four-under for the day and at the time, just one stroke back from the leader.
Clarke added another birdie at the par-5 15th, but a bogey at the last nulled any chance of a victory as the Tyrone man posted a four-under-par round, ending his week’s work at 11-under-par – earning his second top-10 finish of the year.
Pádraig Harrington, who began the day tied for fifth had a very uncharacteristic round – posting some high numbers to see him go the wrong way down the leaderboard to T27 at four-under.
It was a frustrating and unusual round for Pádraig Harrington, who still managed to card six birdies despite finishing with a four-over-par score. The Dubliner’s card was heavily damaged by a series of costly penalties, beginning with a double bogey at the fourth hole after earning a one-shot penalty.
Further trouble followed at the par-4 13th, where Harrington recorded a triple bogey, again as the result of two shot penalties, before another setback came at the closing hole where he signed for a double bogey after yet another penalty.
Boo Weekley completed the 54-hole tournament without a bogey or worse as the American earned his first win on the PGA TOUR Champions.
Weekley began his final round with a birdie at the second, before parring his way towards the finish. When things began to heat up, Weekley came alive again – making tour more birdies at the 15th and 17th to seal the deal with a three-under-par final round and winning with a score of 15-under.
Weekley now moves up to No. 3 in the 2026 Charles Schwab Cup standings after starting the week ranked No. 19.
World Golf Hall of Fame member Ernie Els earned second place with a score of 12-under-par. Els made double bogey at the 17th to hand the win to Weekley as Els posted a one-under-par 71 final round.
Charlie Wi joins Darren Clarke in a T3 finish, followed by Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson in T5 at 10-under.
