Robert Moran closed out with a one-under 71 to finish tied for 13th at the Alps Dreamland Open in Cairo, but the Castle man remains in second place on the Alps Order of Merit.
Runner-up finishes in three of his previous four starts on the tour in 2026 had him well-placed in the race to secure one of the five HotelPlanner Tour cards on offer, and though he didn’t manage to find his ‘A’ game over the three rounds at Dreamland Golf Club, back-to-back rounds of 70 and a closing 71 kept things ticking over, and he remains in the Egyptian capital for The Allegria Open which kicks off on Friday.
Hugh Foley was the only other Irishman to make the cut but a disappointing final-round of 75 saw him fall into a tie for 46th.
Frenchman Maxime Legros secured a wire-to-wire victory after rounds of 65 and 66 had given him a three-stroke lead going into the final round. Despite a mid-round hiccup, he held on to close out with a 71 and win by two over Pablo Alperi of Spain.
A poor week for Sam Murphy, who’d opened the campaign with a victory in his first professional start, saw him drop outside the top five in the rankings, but he, along with Moran, Foley and Cathal Mac Canna is back in action later this week.
