Anna Foster goes into moving day in a share of 16th place at the LET’ Joburg Ladies Open at Randpark GC after a second-round 69 moved her to six-under-par.
The Elm Park woman had an impressive rookie campaign last year, posting two top-10 finishes with a T4 at the Amundi German Masters her best result, but a strong closing to round two gives her an opportunity to improve on that this week.
Starting on the 10th, she parred the first five but dropped a shot on 16 before a birdie at 18 got her to the turn at level-par for the day and -2 overall.
Shen then birdied the par-5 second, par-3 fifth and par-4 sixth before adding another at the par-3 eighth to come home in 32 and card a four-under 69 on the par-73 layout.
This leaves her just five off the lead co-held by Celine Herbin of France and Brianna Navarrosa of the United States at 11-under, with another Frenchwoman in Camille Chevalier in solo third at -10.
At 43-years-old Herbin is chasing a third LET victory this week following wins at the Open de France in 2015 and La Reserva de Sotogrande Invitational in 2019.
“The truth is that I’m still doing the good work,” she said on her longevity on tour. “It’s my fifteenth year as a full member on the LET. I have a lot of experience and also played in America on the LPGA. I still playing competitvely and continue to put in the work. I’m still motivated to improve.”
Unfortunately, Foster will be the only Irish woman contesting the final two rounds after both Olivia Mehaffey and Aine Donegan missed the cut.
