Max Kennedy is confident that he can shake off the disappointment of missing out on a maiden professional victory in France last week as he looks to keep his DP World Tour hopes on track at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge.
Kennedy came agonisingly close to earning a maiden HotelPlanner Tour title in the Blot Play9 last week, eventually missing out in a play-off in Brittany.
The Irishman’s form has been trending in the right direction for a while, with three top 15 finishes in his last four starts seeing him rise to a season-high 20th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings with 20 DP World Tour cards available upon the conclusion of November’s Rolex Grand Final.
The 23-year-old earned playing privileges though DP World Tour Qualifying School last year, doing so as an amateur, and is beginning to impress in his first full season a professional.
“I played well the last couple of weeks and have been trending in the right direction, playing some really good golf and hitting a lot of good golf shots,” said the Royal Dublin man.
“Definitely take a lot of confidence from the second place finish last week even though it was a little disappointing but at the same time that gives me more fuel to win some time in the near future.
“Definitely feeling really good about my game and looking forward to the next couple of weeks.”
Kennedy carded a course record 60 in his opening round last week but followed that up with a chastening reality check 76 as he quickly learned that no two days are the same in professional golf.
“Last week I shoot 60 in the first round and golf feels very easy then all of a sudden you have a reality check and golf is the ultimate humbler and brings you back down to earth. No matter the situation you are in, you have to figure out the next shot and how you can perform to your best all the time.”
This week’s test at Golf PGA France should suit Kennedy’s eye with another tight and tree lined challenge set to put a premium on accuracy off the tee for the players.
“It’s a tight golf course, tree lined, not a lot of room to work with so if you drive it well here you will definitely have an advantage over others.”
Kennedy is joined by fellow promotion hopeful Liam Nolan as well as Dermot McElroy and Jonathan Caldwell.
