Rebekah Gardner’s Women’s Amateur Championship dream came to a shuddering halt as she came undone by a tremendous comeback from India’s Brar Mannat at Nairn.

Gardner was beaten on the 21st after she could only bogey the third extra hole which saw Mannat progress to the last-16.

The Clandeboye woman was four-up early in her match and had birdied the 15th to move three-up but Mannat pulled a rabbit out of the hat with three closing birdies to force extra time.

Gardner was never behind in the match until the 21st having won the first four holes with three pars and a birdie.

Mannat trimmed the gap to the minimum at the turn but Gardner maintained daylight between the pair with a birdie on 10 to move 2UP again and she looked like she had done enough to shirk the challenge of the Indian after 15 before coming unstuck at the death.

Gardner’s exit brings an end to the Irish interest in this year’s Women’s Amateur Championship.
