Brendan Lawlor was in a league of his own as he romped to his first ISPS HANDA Irish Open for Players with Disabilities title at Roganstown.

Lawlor had a seven shot lead after an opening round of 68 and a level-par 71 in round two hammered home his advantage as he won by thirteen shots on three-under, hitting 34 of 36 greens in the process.

“I’m extremely delighted I played some great golf over the last couple of days, struggled on the greens, didn’t have my best so at least I know what I have to work on in the future.

“My tee to green game was pretty faultless so I’m delighted. My first time playing this event and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

The Carton House man and Louth native carded just two bogeys all week and supplemented them with three birdies and an eagle across the 36 holes which set him ahead of the chasing pack.

“It was a stress free three-under tournament I couldn’t have been any worse. But you only have to win the tournament by one, it’s great to be here and see everyone again.”

It’s Lawlor’s third victory of the season having captured the G4D at the West in April and his second G4D Open title at Woburn last month.

“I’m confident in my game at the minute I just want to make as many birdies as possible and it’s working.

“Even looking back at my results the last couple of years I was so close had it not been for some silly mistakes late on. I’m not worried about back nines any more I’m just trying to win tournaments.”

Roganstown’s own Cian Arthurs was second on plus ten after rounds of 75 and 77.

“I’m delighted with how I played. It’s always very difficult to beat Brendan when he’s on song. To come in second and beat the rest I am delighted with it, it’s just amazing at my home club as well.

It was a Roganstown 2-3 as James McParland secured third place on eleven-over with rounds of 77 and 76.

Fiona Gray won the Women’s Overall Net competition with 60 points after rounds of 31 and 29.

“It’s a nice feeling. I haven’t had that feeling since we won the Trophy at the Rose Series, so it was very nice,” said Gray.

“The weather’s been fantastic for us, because last year was a bit of a hit and miss but this year it’s been absolutely fantastic. It makes a difference when it’s dry.

“ISPS Handa are fantastic, they’ve given us so much support and the clothing is just absolutely fantastic.

“I feel proud every time I go away and play in events and to have Brendan here this week has been super, super exciting as well.”

Caolan Munnelly (Tullamore) won the Sport Class II1 after a second round 82. Fernando Vega de Seoane (Real Club Puerta de Hierro) claimed the Combined Sport Class. Adam Dalton (The Royal Jersey) won the Sport Class ST1, Arthurs won the Sport Class ST2, and Lawlor was victorious in the Sport Class ST3.

Mark Clougherty (Lambeg) was the winner in the Net Stroke Play and Timmy Moloney (Co Tipperary) won the Net Stableford.
