Coulter leads Irish charge at Women’s AM

Beth Coulter is well placed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Women’s Amateur Championship after she opened with a round of 71 in Nairn.

The top-64 advance to the matchplay stages after today’s second round and Coulter shares twelfth place on one-under-par.

It was a day of battling for the Kirkistown Castle star who had to recover from a pair of early bogeys to end the day in red figures.

The 21-year-old bogeyed the 5th and 6th holes as he turned in 38 but she roared into life on the back nine rolling in back to back birdies on 11 and 12 before recovering from a dropped shot on the par-3 14th with a brace of birdies on 16 and 18.

Clandeboye’s Rebekah Gardner is also well place on level-par after a round of 72 and the 20-year-old shares 17th place.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Roscommon star is one shot outside the cut mark on four-over after opening with a 76 and Marina Joyce Moreno is a shot further back.

Roisin Scanlon has a mountain to climb from plus eleven.

It’s a young Irish contingent containing three teenagers with Coulter the elder stateswoman at 21.
