Two top 10 finishes at Woodbrook and Shandon Park have seen Lahinch golfer Aideen Walsh climb to the top of the Women’s Bridgestone Order of Merit standings.
Just as she did in 2024, Walsh has made a strong start to her season with her 7th place finish at the Woodbrook Scratch Cup earning her 120 points before adding a further 100 points with a 9th place finish at the Ulster Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Open Championship.
Katie Poots also made a significant move this past weekend, with her victory at Shandon Park marking her first appearance on this year’s Order of Merit. The Knock golfer now sits in a tie for second place alongside Clodagh Coughlan (Douglas) and Olivia Costello (Roscommon), who claimed victory at Woodbrook Scratch Cup earlier this season.
There is little to separate the early front runners, with just 20 points separating Walsh from the chasing pack.
Next up on the women’s tour is the Flogas Irish Women’s Amateur Open Championship where the season’s largest points allocation will be up for grabs at Headfort Golf Club from 21 June.
Meanwhile, the Ulster Men’s Amateur Stroke Play Open Championship has also yielded change on the Men’s Bridgestone Order of Merit as David Lally’s two shot victory saw the Blainroe golfer make his first appearance on the leaderboard, playing his way into a share of 9th place.
Stuart Grehan continues to lead the standings with a 355-point advantage. But that gap could soon narrow, as attention now turns to the East of Ireland Men’s Amateur Open Championship, with Grehan’s home course of Co.Louth playing host once again from 30 May.
