John-Ross Galbraith made a quick start at the Clutch Pro Tour’s Stromberg Masters at Belton Woods after a blistering round of 66.
Galbraith, who represents Whitehead Golf Club, roared out of the traps with back to back birdies before adding two more on the par-5 5th and 8th as he turned in 32.
His only bogey of the day came on the tenth but he recovered with aplomb, rolling in another brace of birdies on the 11th and 12th.
Galbraith shares seventh place on five-under-par and trails Habebul Islam by three shots heading into the final two rounds.
Meanwhile, it’s been a slow start for the Irish contingent overall with Irish PGA champion Niall Kearney in a share of 29th place on two-under after an opening 69.
Low scoring was the order of the day with the 36-hole cut projected to fall at one-under and there are 55 players in red figures.
Noel Murray is in a decent position to push for the cut at level-par after a 71 while Carton House man Marc Boucher is a shot further back.
Paul McBride and Robert Brazill have work to do from two-over while James Sugrue’s run of back to back top-5 finishes on the Clutch Tour looks in serious jeopardy after an opening 74 left him in a share of 94th place on three-over.
