Liam Nolan catapulted himself into contention heading into the final round at the Danish Golf Challenge courtesy of a blistering moving day 65 at Bogense Golf Club.
Nolan trails Calum Fyfe by five shots on twelve-under-par and he might live to rue back to back closing bogeys but his previous sixteen holes were simply sensational.
Nolan opened his HotelPlanner Tour season with finishes of third and fourth but after five missed cuts on the bounce since, a return to a links style tournament has fitted the bill for the Galway man who rolled in nine birdies in round three.
Teeing off eight shots off the pace, the 25-year-old roared out of the traps with four successive birdies before adding a brace on the eighth and ninth holes.
Birdies on 12, 14 and 16 pushed Nolan into a share of second place but he dropped to third alongside Christofer Blomstrand Lars Van Meijel with late bogeys.
Nolan is ranked 15th on the Hotel Planner Tour’s Road to Mallorca Rankings as he bids to put himself in amongst it for a DP World Tour card and another high finish would push him back towards the top-10.
Fyfe will take a three stroke lead into the final round after carding a four under par third round of 68.
The Scotsman, who started the day two shots clear of Sweden’s Per Längfors, made five birdies and dropped one shot on moving day to get to 17 under par for the tournament. Fyfe will start the final round three shots clear of Denmark’s Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen after he posted a six under par 66 to move into solo second.
Having endured a tough period personally after the passing of his mother, the 27-year-old was proud of his third round effort in Denmark.
“Back home I’ve been through a lot, I lost my mum a couple of weeks ago and I feel like she’s helped me out there a couple of times I’ve hit bad shots, and it went well,” he said.
“I always knew I had the game to compete on here, it was just about doing it.”
While Nolan moved forward on Saturday, 20-year-old Daniel Mulligan went in the wrong direction as he carded a round of 74 to fall back to three-under and a share of 45th place.
