Leona Maguire’s preparation for the second major championship of the year has been far from ideal after the missed the cut at the Mexico Riveira Open at Mayakoba.
Maguire carded back to back rounds of 75 to miss the cut by two shots on six-over-par.
It’s back to back missed cuts for Maguire either side of a break in Ireland. There was little to cheer for her in Mexico as she mixed five bogeys with two birdies despite turning under par for her round after nine holes.
The Cavan woman has an indifferent record at the US Women’s Open where she will play next week. Making the cut just twice in six starts although she did share 8th place in 2022.
At the top of the leaderboard in Mexico, Jenny Bae birdied the last for a second round of 69 to hold a one shot lead on six-under-par.
Tucked in behind her are Miranda Wang and Brianna Do while Caroline Masson leads the European charge on three-under in ninth place.
“I’m feeling good. I didn’t have the best finish today so it’s a little sour in my mouth right now. I played solid for most of the 36 holes, so feeling good,” said Do after her round.
“I just kind of kept the ball ahead of me. Didn’t get myself into too much trouble. When I was a little bit out of position I just kind of thought my way around it, got myself back into position.
“So I didn’t do anything super well but I didn’t do anything that poorly out there, so, yeah.”
