Anna Foster and Annabel Wilson both find themselves in red figures and inside the top 20 after day one at the LET’s Jabra Ladies Open at Evian Resort after a significant morning rain delay.

Playing in back-to-back groups and starting on the 15th hole, Foster began brightly, birdieing three of her first five holes but with a bogey thrown in on the 17th. From there, she’d trade two birdies with two bogeys over the closing 13 holes, but a week after recording a career-best T12 finish at the Dutch Ladies Open, she finds herself in the same position going into round two of this week’s event.

Wilson got off to something of to a much slower start as she parred the opening four – which included two par-5s – and then went on a bogey run, dropping four shots in a six-hole stretch to start the front nine. +4 with eight to play, something clicked. She reeled off four birdies in a row from seven through 10, then rolled in a birdie putt on the par-3 final hole to somehow complete the remarkable turnaround. She shares 17th going into round two.

Canice Screene remains on course to make it two made cuts in two LET starts. She lies tied for 36th at +1, though will be a little disappointed to have bookended her round with bogeys and played the 16 holes in between in one-under.

Lauren Walsh is not used to battling to make the cut on the LET, but in a share of 53rd she’s just the right side of the mark after a round of 73 left her on +2. She has an early tee time on Friday and will be hoping that the cut mark is well in the rearview mirror when she signs her card on Friday afternoon.

Moa Folke holds a two-shot lead at the end of the first day. The Swede only dropped one shot but carded eight birdies to card a seven-under 65.

“I had a really good day out there; my putting was really good today. I hit a few good shots as well, so there were plenty of birdies,” said Folke.

“I have been a little bit all over the place today, I’m not going to lie, I made some great saves out there. It’s about managing yourself and when I have made mistakes I’ve missed in the right place or on the right side, so I’ve still been able to get it somewhere near the green and make up-and-downs. That was key today.

“This is definitely a place that you learn as you go along, it’s my third time here now. It feels a bit easier coming here. It’s quite overwhelming the first time, or it can be the first time you come here. Now I’m more relaxed and I really like this course. I think it suits my game; I hit it a bit longer which is helpful out here.”

Mimi Rhodes, who’s won three of her four events in her rookie season, sits alongside Foster at -2.
