It’s major championship week at Quail Hollow as Rory McIlroy returns to a venue he knows all too well to lead a five strong Irish charge at the PGA Championship while our girls are in action in Holland and the Irish Legends comes to Mount Juliet.
PGA Championship
Rory McIlroy will be hoping to keep his chances of a calendar slam on track at this week’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow as he bids for back to back major victories and his third Wannamaker Trophy.
McIlroy has won four times at Quail Hollow during his career including last year’s Wells Fargo Championship where he pummelled Xander Schauffele who subsequently went on to win the PGA Championship and Open Championship.
Shane Lowry is back on the saddle after some late heartbreak at the Truist Championship on Sunday.
Lowry finished in second place behind Sepp Straka as the Austrian clinched his fourth PGA Tour victory, two of which he has beaten the Clara man to the post.
The wait goes on for Lowry who is without a victory since the 2022 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and it will be difficult for him to lift himself given his wretched record at Quail Hollow.
Lowry’s best finish in seven starts at Quail Hollow is 24th and he has described it as a course he “just hates.”
Seamus Power however has had slightly better fortunes at Quail Hollow, missing just one cut in seven appearances there.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for the Tooraneena man who lived in Charlotte for a decade.
Tom McKibbin will make his PGA Championship debut this week after he received an invite to compete in just his third major.
2008 champion Pádraig Harrington rounds off the Irish interest.
Ladies European Tour
The European swing begins in the Netherlands at the Dutch Ladies Open.
Lauren Walsh, Annabel Wilson, Anna Foster and Sara Byrne are all in the field.
Legends Tour
Gary Murphy, David Higgins and Peter Lawrie tee it up at the OFX Irish Legends in Mount Juliet.
Champions Tour
It’s major championship week on the Champions Tour with Darren Clarke teeing it up in the Regions Tradition.
G4D Open
Many of the world’s most talented golfers with disabilities return to compete in The G4D Open from 15-17 May 2025.
The event is staged in partnership with The R&A and the DP World Tour and sees 80 players compete over the Duchess Course at Woburn.
Brendan Lawlor will try to end Kipp Popert’s dominance and claim his second G4D Open title having won the inaugural edition in 2023.
Lawlor will be joined by a strong Irish presence including Alan Gaynor, Cian Arthurs, Paul O’Kelly, Fiona Gray and Ian St John.
