Sunday night proved to be another near miss for Shane Lowry at the Truist Championship as his wait for a first victory since 2022 goes on but he did crack the top-10 in the world for the first time in his career.
Lowry finished joint runner up alongside Justin Thomas as Sepp Straka won his second PGA Tour event of the season. The Clara man looked gutted after two bogeys in his last three holes cost him but he has risen from 12th to 10th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Lowry becomes the fifth Irish player to break into the top-10 in the world while Austria’s Straka also rose into ninth place with the pair surely set for the Ryder Cup in Bethpage Black in September.
Rory McIlroy remains the world number two behind Scottie Scheffler after he finished seventh at Philadelphia Cricket Club as he continued his warm up for this week’s PGA Championship following his grand slam success at last month’s Masters.
McIlroy and Lowry remain the only Irish golfers inside the top-100 in the Official World Golf Rankings with Holywood’s Tom McKibbin the next highest ranked at 124.
West Waterford’s Seamus Power is two places below in 126 while Conor Purcell is 330th.
