Rory McIlroy is a red-hot 4/1 favourite with BoyleSports to win this week’s Truist Championship at Wissahickon Golf Course as the countdown to the next major gets underway.
Already a four-time winner of the competition, McIlroy and the field will tee it up in Philadelphia rather than Quail Hollow. The usual venue will instead host the second major of the year next week, the PGA Championship, but punters don’t think a change of track will stop the world number two gaining a fifth Truist Championship.
Odds of 5/1 were quickly snapped up as McIlroy tees it up for the second time since his Masters win, and the Holywood man is just 9/2 to add to his tally of Quail Hollow victories and bag a sixth career major next week. Scottie Scheffler is trading as the 4/1 favourite for the PGA Championship following his dominant success in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas last week.
Last year’s Truist runner-up Xander Schauffele is expected to be in contention once again this week at odds of 16/1, with Collin Morikawa (11/1), Ludvig Aberg (14/1) and Patrick Cantlay (14/1) also prominent in the chasing pack, while Shane Lowry is a 25/1 shot to land his first win of the year.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Rory McIlroy is attracting strong support ahead of the Truist Championship and its clear punters believe that his hot form isn’t going to dry up anytime soon. With the second major of the year on the horizon, a big performance could cement his credentials next week at one of his favourite tracks, and maybe even spark talk of a calendar Grand Slam.”
