Scottie Scheffler is on course to pick up his first win of the 2025 PGA Tour season while Seamus Power must wait and see if he has secured a weekend tee time at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after play was suspended due to thunderstorms at TPC Craig Ranch.
Power finds himself one shot outside the cut line on three-under after a level par round of 71 on Friday but with a six-hour suspension of play early in round two, there are several players yet to start their rounds while plenty more are yet to finish.
The West Waterford man won’t be going anywhere fast and will have to wait to see if the cut mark comes back to him.
Meanwhile, at the summit, Scheffler has blown everyone out of the water with rounds of 61 and 63 to lead by six shots on eighteen-under ahead of Sam Stevens.
The world number one returned to the course after the storm delay and went on a rampage as he fired in five birdies on his back nine to come home in 30.
It’s been a slow season by Scheffler’s incredibly high standards as he is yet to win this year after his season was delayed slightly by a freak hand injury.
“I feel like my game’s in a good spot. I feel like I’m trending in the right direction,” Scheffler said after his round.
“Today I had two really solid days of golf, and looking forward to getting out tomorrow and trying to execute some more shots.”
Golf fans across the globe will be expecting Scheffler to convert this healthy 36-hole lead and his fourteenth PGA Tour win would mean a lot to him if he could get over the line in front of friends and family in what is essentially another home event.
“This tournament definitely means a lot to me. I haven’t won Colonial yet, so I’m not even close to the DFW double — is that what we’re calling it?
“Going into the weekend, I’m just going to do my best to stay focused, execute. It’s going to be a lot of fun to play here and have a chance to win. I put myself in good position the last two days, and I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing again tomorrow.”
