Seamus Power faces a battle to maintain his place in this month’s PGA Championship field at Quail Hollow after he missed the cut at the CJ Cup at Byron Nelson.
Power had to wait until Saturday afternoon to learn his fate after he finished on three-under while 78 players had to complete their second rounds at TPC Craig Ranch. Good fortune wasn’t forthcoming and the West Waterford man missed the cut by two shots.
In doing so, it leaves Power in danger of falling outside the automatic places for the PGA Championship in a fortnight.
The Tooraneena man was 65th in the PGA Championship Points list but after missing out on weekend action he could fall outside the top-70.
Power missed the Masters last month and at 121st in the Official World Rankings he also faces a tough task of breaking back into the top-100 and securing his spot in the PGA Championship field.
The two-time PGA Tour winner has not made a major championship appearance since the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst.
