Tiger Woods’ injury struggles continue after he revealed he has undergone surgery for a ruptured achilles tendon.
Woods is yet to make a competitive PGA Tour appearance this season and his participation in next month’s Masters at Augusta National is now in serious doubt after his latest injury setback.
In a statement on X, Woods wrote: “As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.
“This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken.
Woods added: “I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
The fifteen-time major winner has been plagued by injuries in recent years but this year his only playing appearances have been in his own co-founded TGL, an indoor competition.
The 49-year-old has won the green jacket five times at the Masters, most recently in 2019, but injuries on top of a shattered leg following a life threatening car accident in 2021 have limited him to just 20 appearances across the last five seasons.
