Shane Lowry is up to a career high 14th in the Official World Golf Rankings after he finished in seventh place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Lowry’s final round of 70 saw him finish on six-under-par, five shots behind eventual winner Russell Henley.

Lowry began the week in 17th place in the world, his joint best ranking since winning the 2019 Open Championship, but after an extremely consistent eighteen months he has risen three places to a record high.

The Offaly man fell outside of the top-50 early in 2024 but ended the season in 27th place in the rankings and he has carried that form into the early part of this year.

Lowry finished in second place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM and he was in a tie for 11th in last week’s Cognizant Classic at Palm Beach Gardens.

The two-time Ryder Cup player will be disappointed with seventh place at Bay Hill having held the halfway lead before a third round 76 put paid to his chances of a first regular PGA Tour win and first worldwide win since the 2022 BMW PGA – he won the Zurich Classic as part of a team alongside Rory McIlroy last year.

Lowry has missed just three cuts since the 2023 Irish Open and in that spell he has registered nine top-10 finishes while he has been inside the top-13 in eleven of his last thirteen starts.
