Rory McIlroy will have an extra pep in his step heading to Bay Hill this week as he moved back to second in the Official World Golf Ranking despite skipping last week’s Cognizant Classic.

Ahead of a busy schedule that includes back to back Signature Events at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, McIlroy has overtaken PGA and Open champion Xander Schauffele in the rankings.

It’s the first time that McIlroy has been as high in the world since July of last year and he holds a 0.01 point lead over Schauffele but remains more than six points behind Scottie Scheffler.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry moved up one place to 17th in the Official World Golf Rankings after a share of eleventh place on Sunday night.

It’s the highest Lowry has been ranked for five years and he is also inside the top-6 automatic places projected to qualify for the European Ryder Cup team this September.

Elsewhere, Seamus Power slipped one place to 120th in the world following a missed cut last week, two places below Tom McKibbin who fell three places.
