Maynooth University student Thomas Abom has an opportunity to pick up his second R&A Student Tour Series victory if he can overcome a two shot deficit on the final day at La Sella Golf Club.

For the second day in succession Abom recovered from a poor start as back to back sixes left him three over through four holes.

The Irish Close champion rallied with birdies on the 6th and 9th and although he dropped shots on the 15th and 17th he finished strong with a birdie at the last for a battling 74 to keep his chances alive.

At two-over, the 20-year-old sits in a share of third place with William Leu still in front on level-par.

The Edmondstown star won the Student Series event in Sweden late last year.

Maynooth student Sean McLoughlin is on four-over alongside Ulster University’s Ronan McCrory while James O’Rourke and Aodhagan Brady round off the top-10 on five-over.
