Olivia Mehaffey looks on course to advance to the Final Stage of Ladies European Tour Qualifying in Morocco.
Mehaffey sits on one-under-par though 36 holes of her pre qualifier at Noria Golf Club in Marrakesh which leaves her in sixth place with the top-24 and ties advancing after 54 holes.
The Tandragee woman has endured a difficult few seasons with mental health challenges following the death of her father but has spoken about being back on the right path again.
“I was just struggling so much off the course and I think I’m a really outgoing person so when I’m not feeling like chatty or social I’m like ‘okay, this is little bit weird’. That’s not me so I’m like you’re never going to play good golf when you’re not enjoying it, you’re not enjoying being on the road; you’re scared to go and compete.
“So I think taking that time to myself was really important and if there’s anything I’ve learnt in the last two years it’s ‘you’re the priority, you’re not just the athlete’. I think that was a nice learning for me.”
Overall, four Irish players are poised got join Sara Byrne at the Final Stage next week.
Former Curtis Cup star Annabel Wilson shares eighth place on one-over after level-par 72 at Samanah where the top-23 and ties will progress.
Irish Women’s Close champion Canice Screene who hails from Corham Hurst in the UK is perched just inside the top-24. Screene has carded rounds of 75 and 77 to lie on six-over and in a share of 21st place.
Elm Park’s Anna Foster is also in a good position after a second round of 75 left her on level-par and in a share of seventh at Palm Golf Ourika.
