Leona Maguire has been clipped into 45/1 from 50/1 with bookie BoyleSports to claim her first major at this week’s US Women’s Open.

The Cavan native has missed the cut in two of her last three LPGA outings, but her missed cut in the Chevron Championship last month was the first time Maguire failed to make the weekend of a major in four years.

A recent second at the T-Mobile Matchplay in Las Vegas adorns Maguire’s scorecard, and punters are backing her each-way to come back to that form at Lancaster Country Club this week after finishing tied-8thin the event in 2022, and just missing out on a top-20 finish last year.

Having topped the stroke play standings at the Las Vegas event, Maguire went down to Nelly Korda in the matchplay decider and Korda is set to tee-off as the red-hot favourite for the US Open on Thursday having won six of her last seven events.

The world number one is already a two-time major winner including April’s Chevron Championship and is a 7/2 favourite to land a third major this week. Korda’s recent dominance has her miles clear of the opposition according to the oddsmakers, with Rose Zhang rated her nearest challenger at 18/1.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “We’ve seen lots of each-way support for Leona Maguire this week, but plenty of punters can’t see past Nelly Korda who comes into the second major of the year in scintillating form.”
