Morgane Metraux of Switzerland holds a five-stroke overnight lead ahead of France’s Agathe Sauzon after second-round play was suspended for the day at the Jabra Ladies Open.

Kildare’s Lauren Walsh is eight shots off the pace on three-under but she will return this morning with an opportunity to make up ground as she has three holes of her second round remaining.

Sitting in a share of third place Walsh is just two shots off second place.

Play was suspended for the first time due to inclement weather at 2.55pm on Friday and, after a one-hour delay, for a second time at 6.08pm as thunderstorms moved across the Evian Resort.

Metraux explained: “I started on 15, pretty steadily, and then made a good putt for birdie on 17. I made an eagle on 18 after hitting the green in two and hitting it to about 10 feet with a 3-wood. I was a bit unfortunate with my lie on one, so I bogeyed that and then I was back on the train where I was hitting good shots, sometimes close and I made a few putts. It was really steady and comfortable golf.

“When play was suspended for the first time, I had just hit my shot on four and I was on the green, so I was happy that was out of the way and knew that I just had a putt next. It was a short stoppage, so I just went to the clubhouse, had some food and chilled for a little bit. The time went by pretty fast.”

“After we went out, I two-putted from 30 feet and then the next swing was on the par-3 5th, with a short pin and it’s quite a difficult hole, so I hit a few practise swings to warm up again and I actually hit a really good shot to about four feet and made that, so I was back and running. I made three birdies in a row on nine, ten and 11.

“When play was suspended for the second time, I was on the middle of hole 12, so I’ve got two-and-a-half holes to go.”

At 7pm, officials made the decision to suspend play overnight.
