As prize funds continue to go one way at the top level of professional golf the question wasn’t whether the PGA of America was going to increase its prize money payout at this year’s PGA Championship to another record payday. The real question was by how much ?
That amount turned out to be $1 million up on last year as The PGA of America announced that its overall purse had jumped to $18.5 million for Valhalla. That meant when Xander Schauffele birdied the 72nd hole to shoot 65 he claimed a mouth watering $3.33 million! To put that number in perspective, just four years ago at TPC Harding Park, the overall purse was $11 million.
