Having led the field at the start of day two, Ireland’s James Sugrue now finds himself five shots off the pace and in a tie for 6th after a second round 69 (-1) added to his opening 64 at the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON.

Sugrue carded four birdies on the front nine but dropped three shots on the back nine in his one-under par total and he now trails Italy’s Mattia Comotti who returned a second round 62 to hold a one shot lead over France’s Benjamin Kedochim. Enrico Di Nitto is one shot further back on 10-under par and there is a two-way tie for 4th place with a French duo: Xavier Poncelet and Alexandre Daydou at 9-under par.

On another mostly sunny day at Golf Club La Pinetina in Como, Italy, Rob Moran bettered his opening day 72 by seven shots and comfortably made the cut (which fell at one-under) in 26th place on three-under par. Unfortunately Marc Boucher and Brandon St. John weren’t as lucky and both missed out.

Italian Comotti leads the way and he shot a bogey-free second round in what is his first full playing season as a professional having only turned pro in 2023. He has however played in the past on the Alps Tour while he was still an amateur earning various top 10 finishes.

After his 8 under-par, 62 Comotti was very satisfied and happily commented: “Today was a spectacular day. I had the chance to hole out two chip shots, and for the rest, I played well. The few mistakes I made I was able to recover nicely so it was really a super day. This morning, I was more worried about making the cut, but as the day went on, I made a few putts and some birdies and gained some confidence from there to put together a good round.” Looking forward to playing in the final pairing tomorrow as the tournament leader, Comotti added: “It’s the first time I’ll be playing in the final pairing tomorrow, so I’m not sure what to expect. Hopefully, I’ll get a good night’s rest and be prepared for a good day.”

The second round of the 2024 Memorial Giorgio Bordoni presented by AON. Play began at 7:30 a.m. local time from the 1st and 10th hole.
