Brendan Lawlor posted a closing, one-under 71 at TPC Craig Ranch to climb to fourth place overall at the G4D Tour @ CJ CUP Byron Nelson, the first G4D event ever to be held in conjunction with the PGA Tour.

For the first time since its inception in 2022, the circuit for golfers with a disability was visiting the United States, and reigning G4D Open winner Lawlor was looking to carve out another slice of history, but an opening three-over 75 left him four off the pace.

A birdie and three bogeys on his outward nine in round two appeared to be all she wrote for the Dundalk man, but he came charging at the leaders on the back nine, birdieing the 10th, 15th and 17th holes without a blemish on his inward loop to post +2 and take the clubhouse lead.

Spain’s Juan Postigo Arce would end Lawlor’s hopes of victory by parring the last for a +1 tally shortly after, before Englishman Mike Brown, playing in the final group alongside World Number One Kipp Popert, came home in 73 for a level-par final tally and a one-shot victory over Popert and Arce.

Browne, who held a share of the overnight lead with Popert after the opening day, parred his final three holes in Texas to secure victory.

In this, the fourth event of nine stops on the 2024 G4D Tour season, four players either held or were tied for the lead across a tightly contested final round.

Lawlor can take consolation from the fact that his 71 was the joint lowest score recorded in the final round, and he’ll now turn his attention to Woburn Golf Club and the defence of his G4D Open title.
