Anthony Kim hit back at criticism aimed at him over his decision to join LIV Golf this season.

Kim made a solid start to the LIV Adelaide event with a one-under 71, his best start to a LIV event since coming on as a wildcard after twelve years without a professional appearance.

The 38-year-old was one of golf’s most popular figures but after a series of injuries he bizarrely gave up the game, disappearing without a trace until Greg Norman announced him as a signing in February.

Kim has found the going tough since his return but showed glimpses of what he is still capable of in round one but he is still 47th in the 54-player event and one golf fan took to social media to give the American a piece of his mind.

Kim was accused of taking ‘corrupt money’ to play ‘Mickey Mouse golf’ by a fan on X.

Kim replied: “U believe what u want big guy. There are great players on both tours and I’m happy to be playing. Things will get better buddy keep ur chin up.”

Kim has been a regular fixture at the foot of leaderboards with finishes of 53rd, 50th and 53rd in his three events on the Saudi backed circuit so far. Perhaps understandable given he was absent from the game since 2012.

“I will be honest I have probably shed around 98 percent of the people who used to be around me,” Kim said in an interview with LIV. “I’m not going to lie, I was around some bad people. People that took advantage of me, scam artists. And when you’re 24 or 25, even 30 years old, you don’t realize the snakes that are living under your roof.

“People blackmailed me, took advantage of me in different ways… but through the grace of God, I’m here. I’m able to tell my story, hopefully inspire other people and, again, my daughter’s going to be proud of me no matter how I play and that’s the most important thing to me.”
