Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are exepected receive formal confirmation later today (Wednesday) of a combined $150m ‘thank you’ for remaining loyal to the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour Enterprises Fund will be officially reaching out to close to 200 PGA Tour members with advice that their loyality will be rewarded from the fund’s purse of $1.5 billion and this is according to a number of sources including the UK-based Daily Mirror and Telegraph

The 82-time PGA Tour winner Woods is expected to receive the greatest grant valuation in Group 1 of a new investment fund for PGA Tour players.

The PGA Tour’s commissioner Jay Monahan, who is also the CEO of PGA Tour Enterprises, will notify members, divulging the worth of award grants for each loyal player who snubbed LIV Golf.

Though the ‘loyality’ handout is not as simple was it may sound.

Group 1 players must accrue ‘Career Points’, which measure how well they’ve done in their PGA Tour career. They will receive points for each year they’ve been on the Tour along with points for the number times they’ve qualified for the season-ending Tour Championship along with their number of Tour wins.  Of course, winning such events as the Tour’s flagship Players Championship also is worth more points.

The most amount of Career Points to be gained is 528 and it’s no suprise Woods is poised to receive a substantial share of the $750million allocated among 36 players in Group 1. As one of the six PGA Tour policy board player directors appointed to the PGA Tour Enterprises board, Woods plays a pivotal role in steering the PGA Tour’s future and commercial endeavours.

McIlroy has accumulated 199 points while Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas have each earned approximately 100 points while four other top players are anticipated to be included in Group 1 and receive substantial rewards, the difference in Career Points suggests that Woods will likely get the largest payout, with McIlroy in second place.

Although the exact portion of the fund designated for Woods remains undisclosed, players could receive potential earnings ranging from tens of millions to nothing.

No surprise the PGA Tour intends to keep the recipient’s identities confidential while it’s also no surprise Woods will pocket the biggest reward.
