Former runner-up Eoin Murphy says he will look to play the course rather than focusing on his opponents as he goes into the final round of the Irish Intervarsity Championship tied for the lead.
Murphy is alongside fellow Maynooth University man, Liam Abom, on -6 after he carded a 67 in round two, on the back of an opening 69. Meanwhile Abom has matched his score with rounds of 70 and 66.
There is a three-way tie just behind on -5 with Robbie Walsh Jnr (UCC), Emma Fleming (UCD) and Simon Walker (Maynooth University) all still right in the mix.
But Murphy is more interested in his own personal battle with the Laytown & Bettystown course as he looks to go one better than he did in Rosapenna.
“I’m looking forward to that, me and Liamo. Go out and see what happens, sort of similar to the last two days, just keep plotting away and hopefully that’s enough come tomorrow afternoon,” said Murphy.
The two Maynooth University teams are top of the overall leaderboard with UCD the only likely challengers but five shots behind the leaders.
David Kitt (Maynooth University), Sean McLoughlin (Maynooth University), Calum Ward (UCD), Jordan Boles (Maynooth University) and Shea Dorman (The Golf College) are also under par in the individual race.
“I was just pretty steady from the get go today. Bogey on the first so I got off to a bad start but I just kept trying to hit as many fairways and greens coming around,” said Murphy.
“It’s the sort of place you just have to plot your way around as opposed to going at it too much so that’s kind of what I did. Less aggressive than yesterday and just took my chances when they came.
“Probably could have got a few more but all in all probably happy with 67.”
