A home winner of the Irish Open at the K Club this week could be on the cards according to the betting with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry set to tee it up as first and third favourites respectively with BoyleSports.

Rory McIlroy heads a star-studded list of entries for the 2023 renewal and is 4/1 favourite to win the tournament as it returns to the venue where he won his first and only Irish Open to date in 2016.

The patriotic support doesn’t end there however as Shane Lowry has been clipped into 14/1 from 16/1 to land his home Open for the second time following his memorable breakthrough victory as an amateur in County Louth 14 years ago.

The Offaly man has yet to record a victory in 2023, but starts with only McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton (10/1) ahead of him in the betting, while Adrian Meronk is a 25/1 shot to defend the title he won last year with a -20 total at Mount Juliet.

Seamus Power (45/1) and Padraig Harrington (50/1) are also popular each-way selections from the home contingent, while Holywood youngster Tom McKibbin is rated a 70/1 shot as he prepares to make his first Irish Open appearance as a pro having broken his duck on the DP World Tour by winning the European Open in Germany in June.

Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “The Irish Open boasts a strong field this week and with even the likes of Tom McKibbin being picked out from the pack, the locals clearly expect plenty to cheer about.”
