Five Irish golfers are set to compete in the Dormy Open which starts today at the Askersunds Golfklubb in Åmmeberg, Sweden.
The quintet of Conor O’Rourke, Conor Purcell, Paul McBride, Stuart Grehan and Daniel Mulligan tee off with a positive Challenge Tour showing at the forefront of their minds.
O’Rourke, Purcell and McBride have recent experience playing in a Scandinavian environment, with all three competing at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge just last week.
Not only that but McBride (-13) and Purcell (-11) finished with impressive final positions at the event won by Finland Native, Lauri Ruuska, with the pair finishing tied 12th and tied 23rd respectively.
O’Rourke also impressed early on at the Finnish Challenge with an opening day three-under-par, but three rounds of level-par saw him slide back in the standings as the weekend progressed.
Stuart Grehan is coming into the competition with the highest finish of all the Irish golfers in their previous appearance on the tour; finishing tied for 10th in the British Challenge at the beginning of the month and a week after getting married he’ll be on cloud nine still no doubt.
Daniel Mulligan will be playing his first tour event since missing the cut at the Irish Challenge finishing tied 141st at the home event.
Reigning champion Emiliano Cuartero Blanco tees off early alongside fellow countryman Manuel Elvira and home-soil hopeful Adam Blommé – with the Swedish national currently ranked seventh in the Road to Majorca standings and seeking his maiden tour victory.
Regarding the Irish hopefuls, Conor O’Rourke will be the first Irishman to tee off, starting at the first hole at 7:50 a.m. alongside Englishman Ben Schmidt and Swede David Nyfjall.
Paul McBride and Stuart Grehan will tee off in consecutive groups from the 10th hole at 7:40 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. respectively.
McBride’s playing partners for the opening round are Spaniard Sergio Parriego and Swede Henric Sturehed, while Grehan will play alongside England’s Thomas Slowman and Denmark’s Hamish Brown.
Daniel Mulligan gets his opening round underway at 12:30 p.m. from the 10th tee alongside OJ Farrell of England and Ronan Kleu of Switzerland.
Conor Purcell is part of the day’s final group which consists of the Irishman and the French duo of Damien Perrier and Jean Bekirian, with the trio teeing off at 2:40 p.m. on the 10th hole.
