Lauren Walsh signed off with a closing three-over 75 to finish tied for eighth at the LET’s Trust Golf Links Series at Ramside Hall, while Austria’s Katharina Muehlbauer powered to a three-stroke victory.
A second-round three-under elevated the Castlewarden star into fourth place going into the third and final round, but bogeys at the opening two holes left her scrambling for lost ground and though she’d eagle the par-5 seventh to get back to level for the day, Muehlbauer had come roaring out of the blocks and covered the opening nine in five-under to move to -11 and build a seemingly unassailable lead.
And that’s the way it proved. Two double bogeys on the back side, with just the one birdie saw Walsh, who’s in just her second month as a professional, finish ten strokes off the pace.
After her strong start, Muehlbauer was never really challenged and the eventual three-stroke victory came after she’d covered her final nine holes in +1, with England’s Hannah Screen at -7 the nearest challenger.
For Walsh, the Trust Golf Links Series has been as much about getting professional reps under her belt as anything else, with the ISPS Handa Invitational at Galgorm and subsequently, the LPGA Qualifying School the primary goals in her fledgling months as a pro.
