Punters are rushing to back Padraig Harrington as he seeks to add a second senior major to his roll of honour this week at the US Senior Open in Steven’s Point, Wisconsin.
BoyleSports have already cut the Dubliner into 4/1 from 5/1 to take the honours in Wisconsin after a spectacular run of five birdies and an eagle in his final seven holes on Sunday saw him defend his DICK’s Sporting Goods Open title with a one-shot victory over Joe Durant.
And after successfully defending the DICK’s Sporting Goods Open, Harrington will be hoping to repeat the feat having landed his maiden senior major at last year’s US Senior Open in Pennsylvania, beating off stiff competition from world number one senior Steve Stricker.
Wisconsin native Stricker is set to tee off as favourite on home turf at 11/4, while the Irish challenge is boosted by former Open and reigning Senior Open champion Darren Clarke, who is rated a 28/1 shot.
On the regular PGA circuit, Rory McIlroy posted his fifth consecutive top-ten finish when tied-7th in last week’s Travelers Championship and is now in pole position to tee off next month’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool as favourite having moved into 7/1 from 9/1 to win his second Claret Jug at the same venue he bagged his first.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Padraig Harrington was on fire in the closing stages at the weekend and couldn’t have asked for a better warm up, so needless to say Irish punters are piling in with a major up for grabs this week.”
