Darren Clarke and Pádraig Harrington both made solid starts to the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on the Champions Tour.

Clarke carded a four-under 68 and is four shots behind overnight leader Joe Durant while Harrington is a shot further back after an opening 69.

2011 Open champion Clarke had only one blemish on his card, dropping a shot on the par-4 15th but carded birdies on the seventh, ninth, twelfth, sixteenth and eighteenth to climb into a share of 4th.

Harrington however, started well and finished poorly.

The three-time major champion bogeyed 15 and 16 to drop out of a tie for second and into a share of 14th place on three-under-par.

A hat trick of birdies on 3, 4 and 5 looked to have Harrington motoring in the right direction before a bogey on 7 saw him turn in 35.

Three birdies in four holes on the back nine saw him close in on leader Durant before two late hiccups brought him back into the pack.
