Shane Lowry is gaining support to add a second major to his resume this week as BoyleSports cut him into 40/1 from 50/1 to win this week’s US Open in Los Angeles.
The Offaly man has posted top-25 finishes in six of last seven outings in major championships and Irish punters are growing increasingly confident he’ll make a strong bid to add to the Claret Jug he picked up for winning the 2019 Open Championship at Portrush.
Rory McIlroy however has been eased to 12/1 from 10/1 despite finishing in the top ten in three consecutive outings going back to last month’s PGA Championship in New York. Belfast man Matthew McClean is gearing up for another major appearance following his Masters debut in April and is a 45/1 shot to finish best of the Irish contingent, which also includes Waterford’s Seamus Power and three-time major winner Padraig Harrington.
Scottie Scheffler leads the betting at 13/2 ahead of Masters champion Jon Rahm at 10/1, while Brooks Koepka is 11/1 third favourite to bag a sixth career major and second in succession.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “A lot of each-way traffic is heading in Shane Lowry’s direction and he’s going to tee off the shortest price for any major so far this year, so he is clearly being given a lively chance.”
