Rowan Lester fired a closing four-under 67 from the cutline to leapfrog his fellow countrymen and finish best of the Irish at The Manor House Clutch Pro Tour event in the Cotswold region of southern England.

The Hermitage man played his final nine holes (the front nine) in one-under in round two to make the cut on the number, but covered the same nine-hole stretch in four-under this morning to make strong gains on the field. Back-to-back sixes on the par-5 12th and par-4 13th holes threatened to undo the good work, but he’d go birdie, birdie, par, birdie to finish out the event and climb to tied 27th on the leaderboard.

Conor O’Rourke was next best of the four Irish to survive the chop, but a closing three-over 74 will leave the K Club man disappointed with the week’s performance. Four bogeys and a double-bogey on the front nine did the damage, and though he’d make birdies at six, 13 and 14, the resulting T44 finish will do little to bolster his chances of capturing one of the two Challenge Tour cards up for grabs.

The same can be said of fellow K Club pro Liam Grehan and Daniel Mulligan who both signed off with rounds of +6, leaving them at +2 and +3 for the week respectively.

England’s Tom Shadbolt fired an eight-under 63 to storm to a one-stroke victory over 36-hole leader Jake Burnage. Shadbolt birdied four on the front side and repeated the feat on the back, including a walk-off birdie three on the last to post a clubhouse target that couldn’t be matched.

The one-time Challenge Tour player was one of just three players to shoot in the sixties in each of the three rounds, but his closing 63 was the lowest round of the week and he claims the top prize of £8,000.
