Second round 75 sees Mehaffey miss the cut by the minimum at Helsingborg Open

A triple-bogey seven at the par-4 ninth hole proved extremely costly for Olivia Mehaffey as her second-round three-over 75 saw her miss the cut by a single stroke at the LET’s Helsingborg Open in Sweden.

Birdies at the first and third holes saw the Tandragee lass make an ideal start, but bogeys at the fifth and eighth holes dropped her back to level for the day, before the aforementioned triple at the last hole of the front nine.

Nine straight pars would follow, but it was heartbreak in the end as the cutline would fall at +4 with the former Arizona State Sun Devil the wrong side of the chopping block.

Nicole Garcia and Ana Pelaez Trivino share the lead on seven-under-par after the pair fired matching rounds of three-under-par 69 in warm and benign conditions at Allerum Golf Club on Saturday. 

Caroline Hedwall, who held a three-way share of the lead after the first round, shot a 70 to end the day one stroke behind in a share of third position with Lisa Pettersson and Casandra Alexander.

Garcia fired the first hole-in-one of the tournament during an eventful morning round, which featured two eagles, three birdies and four bogeys.

The South African aced the 172-yard par 3 third hole using a majestic eight-iron, moments before Finland’s Elina Numenpaa made another hole-in-one on the par-3 14th.
