Former Boyzone stars Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden will be hoping their golf game is on song this summer when they are joined by a host of other famous faces at the Wapp Celebrity Series event at La Moye Golf Club in Jersey.
Held between June 8-11, the Legends Tour Jersey Legends event is returning to the island as 2006 Ryder Cup-winning captain and 1991 Masters champion Ian Woosnam heads a strong field competing for victory at his home course.
Alongside the main tournament, the first Wapp Celebrity Series event of the season will take place on June 8 as stars from the world of sport and entertainment compete. Friends turned Boyzlife bandmates Duffy and McFadden will both be in attendance in Jersey, with the former looking to qualify for the Wapp Celebrity Series Grand Final – and the chance to win a share of £100,000 for charity – for a third successive year.
“What makes the Legends Tour Wapp Celebrity Series such a great event to get involved in is that it offers us all a chance to play golf for charity,” said Duffy.
“Winning in 2021 at the Celebrity Series Grand Final was overwhelming, an unbelievable feeling because of what it meant to me. I was able to receive a cheque for almost £30,000 for AsIAm – Ireland’s national autism charity.
“I have a little girl with autism and I’ve been campaigning for children and families who have been affected by autism for over 20 years, so to be able to give AsIAm that sort of money upon my return from Mauritius was fantastic. Hopefully I play some good golf in this year’s Wapp Celebrity Series and can have that opportunity to return to Mauritius to compete for them once again.”
McFadden will be representing The Bubble Foundation UK if he qualifies for the Wapp Celebrity Series Grand Final – a charity that helps support babies born with no immune system for which he is president.
He said: “It is incredible to be able to play at so many great golf courses like La Moye Golf Club with the Legends Tour.I played at last year’s event and had a good time with all the guys, girls and professionals.
“Unlike Keith I could not compete at last year’s Celebrity Series Grand Final as I had not qualified. We’ve both been on tour with Boyzlife the last few months so have not had too much time to play golf, but hopefully I will not be too rusty and can make a good account for myself in Jersey.”
The duo will be joined on the island by former Love Island contestant turned respected horse-racing broadcaster Chris Hughes, Great Britain hockey star Sam Ward and former Scotland rugby union player Thom Evans.
Formula One legend Damon Hill, former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola, Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, 20-time National Hunt champion jockey Sir AP McCoy and ex-England rugby union players Matt Banahan and Kyran Bracken have also been confirmed for the event.
Phil Harrison, chief executive officer of the Legends Tour, said: “This year’s Jersey Legends event at La Moye Golf Club promises to be a great week, and with some many celebrities now confirmed we’d encourage everyone to snap up the free tickets on offer while they remain available.”
The Wapp Celebrity Series winner in Jersey will receive a place at the Celebrity Series Grand Final – an event set to return to Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius in December.
The 2023 Jersey Legends event will support the Jersey Sports Association for the Disabled, with several fundraising activities scheduled to take place during the course of the event including raffles and an auction at a gala dinner.
Limited places are also still available to compete in the playing experiences – including playing alongside the celebrities – at the Jersey Legends.
The Celebrity Series playing experience will see participants team up with a celebrity and Legends Tour professional for one round of golf while receiving access to the player’s lounge for breakfast, bespoke gifts, and hospitality post-event.
Amateur golfers looking for an exclusive opportunity to live out the life of a golf legend across several days can sign up for the Alliance Series event, playing in front of live crowds and TV for three rounds of golf – one in the Celebrity Series and two in the Alliance Series. Players will also receive a three-night stay in the official tournament hotel, a bespoke gift pack and invitations to all exclusive functions.
