Meadow faces battle to make the cut at Founders Cup

Stephanie Meadow is two shots below the cut line entering the second round of the Cognizant Founders Cup as Sei Young Kim edged into a one shot lead after day one in Clifton.

Meadow is two-over-par after an opening 74 that included four bogeys and two birdies which leaves her in a share of 80th place with the projected cut mark set to be level-par.

The Jordanstown native is eight shy of early leader Kim who carded a bogey free 66 to lead by the minimum as she hunts a lucky 13th LPGA Tour title.

South Korea rookie Hae Ran Ryu is a shot further back after a 67 that included eight birdies.

Kim was superb on day one and had four successive birdies on the back nine which catapulted her into the lead before she closed with three straight pars.

“Learned a lot from the last year, because this week really need the good tee shot, Kim said. “If you’re good tee shot you had a good advantages on par 5.

“This course is what I — favorite course, so this course is kind of lot of tree both side, and keep the fairway it’s really important this week.

“So, yeah, we need a good strategy and a good hit. And, yeah, greens are really fast, way faster than when I practice round. Yeah, it’s go out to play on the really fast speed green.”

The 30-year-old is searching for a first win since 2020 and a second Founders Cup.

“I mean, especially this tournament, the Founders Cup, so it’s mean a lot because of the couple legend players, legacy players, so we had a chance to meet them 18. Really glad to meet them.

“Yeah, that’s kind of good emotional share with them, so it’s really special tournament to me.”
